Making the World a Better Place
Through Sustainable, Eco-Friendly Efforts.
reimagine / repurpose / relive
I approach the upcycling of any piece of furniture the same as I do every DIY and crafty endeavor, like a work of art. Every project has life and character traits of their own. Every project starts out pretty hazy or blank, requires a lot of different steps and layers, usually has a significant “puberty”
stage some where in the middle, and eventually comes out on the the other side as something really beautiful. Each piece that I acquire has a story, one of its heyday. I let it tell me why it was so beautiful then, and through this voice-less interaction, I understand how it can become beautiful once again through its transformation into something else.
This is my Zen, where my mind can tune out of the world’s happenings, and during which my creativity flows unobstructed. This process takes different amounts of time depending on the piece. Sometimes, I get it right after a few iterations. Other times, I will let the piece rest and sit for awhile, and several iterations later, the piece has found its new purpose.
And then, it will be ready to be Up To New Good at your home!
